The technical evaluation is the first of three site visits from our team. This one takes about two hours and is an opportunity for us to confirm everything we've learned about your home so far, to take some photos and measurements, and collect all the details needed to complete your solar design. Since this requires access to the attic, electrical panel, and the roof or ground mount site, we do ask that you schedule this for a time when you can be present. It's also a great time for you to ask questions and share your preferences around equipment placement. While some of that is code-required, we always consider the homeowner's preference to the extent we can. Final decisions on placement will come during the design and recontracting phase.

If you need to reschedule your Technical Evaluation, please notify your Project Management Team as early as possible.

That means our designers are working to finalize your system design, which can sometimes be slightly different than your original proposed design because we now have a clearer picture of your site. With the information from the technical evaluation on hand, our design team will create a detailed plan set for our installation crews. Then we'll check and recheck those plans. And if anything at all has changed from your original proposal, we'll share that and get your approval with a revised contract before moving forward.

If your solar project is being installed on a public building, additional regulatory approvals are generally needed.

Time for Interconnection!

Your project management team will take care of filing interconnection applications with the local utility company, but they will need your electronic signature, so you should see a request for that. Ultimately, the time frame for interconnection approval depends on the utility and project complexity. Once the Interconnection application has been approved, you'll receive an email notification from the utility and we can move forward with scheduling.

We now have your plans, permits, and provisional approval from your utility and it's time to schedule the first phase of your installation! Your project management team will reach out to coordinate a time that works for you.

Panel installation is strictly external, so it's not necessary for you to be on site at this time. Still, always let us know if you need to make any changes to the installation date or time and if you have questions please reach out to your Project Management Team. The second phase will require access inside, so stay tuned for your project manager to reach out and schedule a time that works best for you.

Congrats! You've been patiently waiting and now you have panels!

Next up, our project management team will reach out soon to schedule your electrical (AC) installation. There's usually a gap between those two install dates by a few weeks. The electrical installation can take anywhere from 1 to 3 days and we do need someone to be present so our crews can access inside the home. Depending on the nature of your installation, you may expect a brief interruption of power during certain times.

Voila! Your electrical installation is now complete. You should have received an invitation to your Enphase Enlighten monitoring service where you can view your system's production.

You may notice we've set your system to a special setting called \"No Export.\" This means that your system is operating in a limited capacity pending final permitting and Bi-directional meter installation from your utility. Basically, you can now generate power with your solar panels and you can consume that power, but you're unable to export the excess power that you create onto the grid. We've got a few more boxes to check before you can export!

Now that all on-site installation is complete, we'll schedule the local permitting authority and utility to do their inspection. Usually, this takes place within 14 days of electrical completion.

Most inspectors schedule projects on a first come first serve basis and are pretty timely, but we try to stay in close contact with them. As soon as your system passes inspection and we receive the appropriate documentation, we'll request your new Bi-directional Meter and Permission to Operate (PTO) from the utility.

We now have everything we need to submit to the utility company for your new Bi-directional meter and Permission to Operate (PTO) letter. This last step is in the hands of your utility company and sometimes it can take up to a month or even longer if their net-metering office is behind. Please be aware: by law, a customer is not permitted to turn on their system to export power until PTO is granted by the utility. Your system must remain in \"No Export\" at this time.
